Bird seed ornaments are an easy and inexpensive kid’s craft that you can make using materials already found around the home – they will please both birds and kids alike! Make one today to please both! The birds will thank you while kids will love making these fun decorations!

How to Create Bird Seed Ornaments Bird seed ornaments are an easy and fun craft for kids of any age to create! Simply shape them however you like; just be sure to cut a circle in the center so the birds have somewhere comfortable to perch while they enjoy munching away at their delicious feast of bird food!

All you’ll need is some thin cardboard, peanut butter (the Audubon Society has assured us it is safe for birds), and bird seed. For more information about peanut butter’s relationship to birds, see this article about Myths and Facts of Peanut Butter and Birds.

How To Create A Bird Seed Ornament First, flatten out your cardboard. Next, use cookie cutters or templates to trace out any shapes you would like with pencil. At the center of each shape draw an approximately 1-1/2-inch diameter circle – this will serve as your base circle when cutting out. Finally, cut out both shapes.

TIP: Adults can pierce the center with a nail or needle to help cut out its core.

Use a nail or needle to poke a hole at the top of the shape (adults only), thread floral wire through it, and twist to close it before pouring some bird seed on top (for decoration purposes only).
Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on the shape, hold it over a tray filled with bird seed, and cover it. Remove excess. Now place on baking tray lined with wax paper until set (optional). Repeat on other side (if desired).
